From One Rack to Warhouse Barbell
The journey of two brothers, a basement, and a dream that built a community.

Where It All Began
For most of our lifting career, we trained in commercial gyms, and it never matched our goals or mentality. We couldn’t cheer each other on without judgment, couldn’t use chalk for heavy deadlifts, and conversations were rare with everyone locked behind headphones. We knew we needed something different.

One Rack & a Dream
At the beginning of 2016, we canceled our lifetime memberships and started building the gym we craved. With just $300, we bought a beat-up red all-in-one rack for $200, plus a barbell, 300 lbs of weights, and plate-loaded dumbbell handles for $100. It wasn’t much, but it was enough to get to work.

Expansion #1
We expanded the basement from 8’x15’ to 23’x15’, adding a Rogue squat rack, benches, dumbbells from 5–75 lbs, and gym mats. The place started looking official, all for just $650 used.

The First Crew
A year and a half later, three friends joined our basement sessions. We immediately added another rack, more barbells, and built our own bar holder. It was a small, intense, and like-minded environment, and it was just the beginning.

Expansion #2
We expanded again in January to welcome more lifters and drop-ins.

Championship Glory
As a team, we competed at the Illinois State Powerlifting Championship, taking home 5 first-place finishes, 1 second-place, 9 state records, 2 national records, and 1 unofficial world record.

The Take Off
Word spread. Our coaching, dedication, and no-nonsense atmosphere drew in lifters ready to push themselves. By the end of the year, our team had grown to 15 athletes.

Building a Family
Over 100 people had visited Yatos Basement by year’s end. Guests immediately felt at home, a welcome contrast to commercial gyms.

Expansion #3
By March, we had 31 athletes lifting in tight groups on strict start times.
By winter, the entire basement had transformed into a full gym, wall-to-wall equipment and an atmosphere that pushed everyone to their best.

Make it happen
For 11 months, we searched for the perfect warehouse. In November, we found it, and after 6 months of work, Warhouse Barbell opened its doors. The basement days were over, but the community spirit lives on.

EXPANSION #4 (OFFICIAL GRAND OPENING)
After years of hard work, Warhouse Barbell celebrated its official grand opening in August 2022. What started as a single rack in a basement had become a full-fledged gym and a home for lifters chasing the best version of themselves.

EXPANSION #5
In July 2025, Warhouse Barbell expanded again to include upgraded facilities, brand-new equipment, and additional training areas. This expansion strengthens our commitment to providing members with the best environment, tools, and community to reach their fitness goals.
